After prolonged discussions and negotiations, the seat-sharing arrangement among the opposition India Alliance parties in Uttar Pradesh has been finalized. The Congress Party has agreed to contest in 17 seats in the state. The remaining 63 seats will be shared among the Samajwadi Party and other alliance partners. This agreement was reached on Wednesday by the India Alliance.

During a press conference, the Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, Avinash Pandey, revealed that the seat distribution had been finalized. He expressed happiness that the Congress would be contesting in 17 locations while the other seats would be contested by the alliance partners. After the clarity on seat-sharing, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav also responded, congratulating everyone in the India Alliance for the amicable seat-sharing arrangement. He stated that they are ready to protect the Constitution written by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and to implement the principle of numerical cooperation suggested by Ram Manohar Lohia. He added that they would actively promote socialist values for equality.

Media reports suggest that Priyanka Gandhi played a crucial role in the seat-sharing discussions between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress Party, with discussions being facilitated through interactions with Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress Party had initially insisted on contesting the Moradabad MP seat, but eventually had to settle for 17 seats as the other alliance parties were not willing to concede more. This agreement on 17 seats has led to a resolution in the seat-sharing arrangement within the India Alliance in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress will be contesting in seats including Raebareli, Amethi, Kanpur Nagar, Fatehpur Sikri, Bansgaon, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Maharajganj, Varanasi, Amroha, Jhansi, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Deoria.
