Morale boost to BJP as its bags 8 Rajya Sabha seats while Cong secures five

Hyderabad: The BJP won a landslide victory in the elections for 16 Rajya Sabha seats in four states. In Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana, the BJP emerged victorious. In Rajasthan, the Congress won three seats.

Meanwhile, Congress suffered an unexpected shock in the Haryana Rajya Sabha elections. Former minister Ajay Maken was defeated. Elections were held for two seats in which Krishnalal Panwar won from BJP while Kartikeya Sharma won as an Independent candidate. Ajay Maken got 29 votes while Karthikeyan Sharma secured 29.6 votes. With this, the Congress candidate lost. Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi has resorted to cross-voting in this election. The vote was declared disqualified after he voted for Sharma. On the other hand, Sharma received the victory with the support of the BJP and the JJP.

On the other hand, the Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra is in for a big shock. In Maharashtra, elections were held for six seats. BJP won three seats. Meanwhile, Praful Patel from the Nationalist Party (NCP), Imran Pratap Garhi from the Congress and Sanjay Raut from the Shiv Sena won. On the other hand, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik were elected from the BJP. Elections were held for a total of 16 seats. The BJP won eight seats and Congress won five seats.
