10-yr-old from Mumbai becomes youngest girl to climb Mount Everest base camp

Mumbai: Rhythm Mamania, a 10-year-old from Mumbai, has set a record as the youngest girl to climb Mount Everest base camp. The lass became one of the first Indian mountaineers to achieve a thrilling feat earlier this month. She is a fifth-grader at MET Rishikul Vidyalaya in suburban Bandra. Rhythm reached the South Base Camp in Nepal on May 6 at an altitude of 5,364 metres above sea level.

The 11-day expedition was successfully completed on arrival at the base camp. Despite being the most difficult mountain to climb and the adventure to survive the harsh weather conditions, none of these could stop her goal. However, after arriving at base camp, she insisted that she would walk while the other members, who accompanied her, decided to take the chopper on the way back.

Subsequently, "I climbed some peaks in the Sahyadri mountain ranges, including the forts of Karnala, Lohagad and Mahuli. In addition, this trekking has taught me how important it is to solve the problem of mountain waste management as a responsible trekker"
