Telangana govt attracts Supreme Court's ire over removal of lakhs of ration cards
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has vented its ire at the Telangana government's decision to remove lakhs of ration cards. The court also issued notices to the Telangana government to file an affidavit on the matter within three weeks. The Supreme Court on Wednesday took up a hearing on a petition filed alleging that more than 20 lakh ration cards were removed in the state.
On the occasion, the Supreme Court has questioned the Telangana government on how it can remove lakhs of ration cards. The court expressed its anger when the Telangana government's lawyer said that the ration cards that are not linked with the Aadhaar card had been removed.
When the Central government told that linking Aadhaar cards with rations ration cards was not mandatory how come your government had made it compulsory, the apex court questioned.
The court asked the Telangana government to file an affidavit on the matter within three weeks and adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
