KTR hits out at Amit Shah for asking states to promote Hindi, not local languages
Telangana Minister K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) has faulted Union Home Minister Amit Shah for asking states to promote Hindi instead of English and local languages. In series of tweets, KTR said that he is an Indian first and proud to be Telugu and Telanganite. “My mother tongue is Telugu and I can speak English, Hindi and a little bit of Urdu,” he stated.
Rao mentioned that discouraging the use of English language will be a “great disservice to the youngsters of this nation, who have global aspirations.” He further tweeted, “Unity in diversity is our strength dear @AmitShah Ji. India is a union of states & a true ‘Vasudhaika Kutumbam.’ Why don’t we let people of our great nation decide what to eat, what to wear, who to pray to and what language to speak! Language chauvinism/hegemony will boomerang.” KTR’s strong reaction to Amit Shah’s statements came at a time of ongoing rift between the ruling KCR government and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
