Political supporters try to storm HCU, disrupt VC meeting

Hyderabad Central University on Wednesday again witnessed demonstrations following the Joint Action committee of the students, supported by 10 Left parties, demanding the immediate dismissal of University Vice-Chancellor Podile Appa Rao in connection with the suicide by research scholar Rohith Vemula. As the JAC and the Left party supporters gathered at the university main gate and tried to climb over it, the police, who were deployed in large numbers, dragged them down before arresting some of them. There was a lot of tension in the area. The students and Leftists protest aim was to storm the Academic Council meeting to disrupt it. The Vice-Chancellor went ahead with the council meeting to put an end to the student protests and contnue with the classes. But the demonstrating students went ahead with their slogan raising and other non-academic pursuits. University Assistant Registrar Prof Krishna is reported to have resigned at the council meeting. Details are not available. The student demonstrations appear to be part of a concerted plan by top political leaders who apparently want to make political capital out of student unrest in the country. They are in fact sponsoring the students to go round the country. Jawaharlal Nehru University was also going through student unrest. Barring the two Central varsities, the rest of the stdent community have nothing to do with the outlandish ideas of the two Central varsities. The two universities have made a fetish of euloging the convicted traitors Afzal guru and Yakub Memon.
