Former Bangladesh president praises Modi for border pact

Kolkata, Dec 8: Former Bangladesh president H.M. Ershad on Tuesday praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in implemention of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) for the historic exchange of enclaves. "The implementation of the LBA touched the hearts of people across Bangladesh. The agreement was possible due to the efforts of Modi," said Ershad, who is on a visit to his ancestral house in Dinhata of Cooch Behar district. Along with family members, Ershad entered Cooch Behar district through Changrabandha International Check post during the day. The LBA was inked on June 6 in Dhaka, in the presence of Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. In pursuance of the LBA, both the countries exchanged 162 adversely-held enclaves on August 1. India gave away to Bangladesh 17,160 acres, covering the 111 enclaves and in return received 7,110 acres comprising 51 enclaves.
