ISRO's SHAR receives threat letter, officials sound red alert

Sriharikota (Nellore), Oct 12: Security was beefed up and a red alert was sounded at SHAR in Sriharikota of Nellore district after it received an anonymous letter threatening the facility would be blown up. Sriharikota Range (SHAR) is the satellite launching station of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Security officials are taking the matter seriously and took necessary measures to tackle possible security risks. According to reports, the letter was sent by a terror group. The SHAR lies on an island in the mixed water spread of Pulicat Lake and the sea, facing the Bay of Bengal. It houses the Satish Dhawan Space Centre too and many key facilities relating to India’s space programme.
