Drones for surveillance in Tirumala

Tirupati, Sep 09: Two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will keep close watch on temple town Tirumala round the clock. The police will soon use two drones fitted with high resolution cameras to keep surveillance on crowds and vehicles in the temple town round the clock. Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala is one of the busiest shrines in the world and on an average 50,000 devotees visit the temple everyday. The drones will be operated from annual Navaratri Brahmotsavams scheduled to be held from October 14. Each drone operates from a heigh of 100 to 200 feet and covers a radius of 2 km. According to sources, the entire area will be covered within a span of five minutes. The drones will be linked to the TTD's central security system As per 'Agama Sastra' norms, drones would not be operated over sanctum sanctorum. The AP government used these two drones during Godavari Pushkaralu in Rajahmundry.
