First study centre for transgenders to come up in Bhopal

Bhopal, July 10: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to set up a separate study centre for transgenders. The first study centre for transgenders in the country will come up at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and its maintenance will be given to NGOs. Though Supreme Court has identified transgenders as ‘Third Gender’ they are being discriminated everywhere. Madhya Pradesh state took steps for the welfare of eunuchs and the first transgender MLA in the country was elected from the State. INGOU will take up a survey to set up study centres for transgenders at other places. Despite the discrimination, transgenders excelled in various fields.
