Google Unveils Gemini AI-Powered Shopping Tools at I/O 2025
In a significant move to enhance the online shopping experience, technology giant Google has introduced a suite of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered shopping features at its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2025. These newly unveiled innovations are designed to make the purchase process more personalized and convenient for users.
The newly introduced AI shopping tools are powered by Gemini AI technology and the Google Shopping Graph. This Shopping Graph houses information on over 50 billion products worldwide, including comprehensive details such as pricing, colors, stock availability, and user reviews. Notably, the data is updated hourly, with nearly 2 billion product updates taking place each day.
For instance, when users search for an item, Google’s AI Mode displays image-rich results tailored to their preferences and needs. It provides clear answers and suggestions based on budget, features, and intended use. Additionally, users can click the “Track Price” button to monitor the price of a desired product, selecting preferred size, color, and budget parameters. When the product price drops, an instant alert is sent to the user. The transaction can then be completed quickly and securely via Google Pay.
One of the standout innovations among these features is the Virtual Try-On. This allows users to upload their photo and virtually try on billions of garments. A specially developed image generation model analyzes fine details such as body shape and fabric creases to accurately depict how the clothes would fit on the user. Currently, those shopping for shirts, pants, skirts, and dresses can use this feature by clicking the "Try It On" icon in Search Labs. These try-on images can also be saved and shared with others.
The AI Mode Shopping and Authentic Checkout features are set to launch in the United States over the coming months. The Virtual Try-On feature is already available in the U.S. through Search Labs. “These features will significantly help consumers make better decisions at the right time and at better prices,” said Lilian Rincon, Vice President of Product Management at Google. The company expressed optimism that these innovations would make online shopping more engaging and easier than ever before.
