Good News for PF Account Holders: Now Check Balance Even Without Internet
Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account holders will no longer face difficulties in accessing details of their provident fund accounts. Even in the absence of internet access or the need to log into the EPFO portal, individuals can now easily obtain their PF information. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced two new offline services—missed call and SMS-based facilities—that are available free of charge. These services are especially beneficial for members who lack access to digital platforms. To use these services, an active Universal Account Number (UAN) and a registered mobile number are sufficient.

EPFO members with an activated UAN can simply give a missed call to 99660 44425 from their registered mobile number to instantly receive PF account details. For this facility to work, the bank account number, Aadhaar, and PAN must be linked to the UAN. Once the call is made, it will automatically disconnect after two rings, and the member will then receive an SMS containing their current PF balance and the last credited amount. EPFO has clarified that this service is entirely free and has been developed to assist those without internet access.

For those preferring to receive PF details via SMS, EPFO has made arrangements in multiple Indian languages. Members can send an SMS with the message “EPFOHO UAN” to 77382 99899 from their registered mobile number. By default, the response will be in English. If the information is needed in Telugu, the SMS should be “EPFOHO UAN TEL.” Similarly, information is also available in Hindi (HIN), Punjabi (PUN), Gujarati (GUJ), Marathi (MAR), Kannada (KAN), Tamil (TAM), Malayalam (MAL), and Bengali (BEN). EPFO stated that through this service, members will receive details on their PF balance, the most recent contribution, and the KYC information linked to the account.

These innovative offline services make it possible for individuals without smartphones or internet connectivity to stay informed about their retirement savings. This initiative plays a crucial role in providing uninterrupted access to PF account information for millions of salaried employees.

In case a member's UAN is not yet activated, they can visit the EPFO website at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface and click on the “Activate UAN” option on the homepage. By entering their UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, and the CAPTCHA code, and submitting the OTP received on their phone, they can set a password and log in. Once activation is complete, the missed call and SMS services can be accessed.

To fully utilize EPFO services, updating KYC details is mandatory. Members must log in to the EPFO Member Portal, navigate to the ‘Manage’ section, and select the ‘KYC’ option to update Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account information, then click ‘Save’. These updates will be verified and approved by the employer.
