One crore Bathukamma sarees distribution from tomorrow: KTR

Hyderabad, September 21: Minister for IT and Industries K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday said that the Telangana government took a decision to commence distribution of one crore Bathukamma sarees to women aged 18 and above holding white ration cards. He stated that sarees were produced in 24 variety designs in 10 colours and with 240 thread borders.
 
KTR said that the TRS government helped weavers by placing orders to weave sarees as part of ‘Bathukamma Sarees Project’. “State government spent Rs 339.73 crore towards the project,” he mentioned. Distribution of sarees on a massive scale for women was launched in 2017. So far, 5.81 crore sarees were given to women, he added.
 
The minister said that Bathukamma festival symbolises Telangana tradition and culture. Officials were told to complete distribution of sarees by September 24 as women will be celebrating festival from September 25. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and people’s representatives will participate in saree distribution programmes.
