Vajpayee agreed to confer Bharat Ratna to NTR but Chandrababu opposed: Yarlagadda

Amaravati, September 21: Showing a documentary evidence, Andhra Pradesh Official Language Commission Chairman Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad revealed that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had agreed to confer Bharat Ratna to legendry Telugu actor and TDP founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), but TDP chief and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu opposed as the award will be handed over to NTR’s widow Lakshmi Parvathi.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Yarlagadda said that the Telugu Desam always play drama over Bharat Ratna to NTR. “TDP passes a resolution in Mahanadu every year and sends a letter to the Central government urging to announce Bharat Ratna for departed leader,” he flayed.

Lakshmi Prasad read out an email sent by him to Vajpayee in April 1998 requesting to confer Bharat Ratna to Rama Rao. “Lakshmi Parvathi will not get credit if she accepts Bharat Ratna on behalf of NTR,” he mentioned.
