Court halts removal of Azharuddin’s name from Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium stand

Former Indian cricket captain and ex-president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), Mohammad Azharuddin, has received relief from the Telangana High Court. The court issued a stay on the decision to remove his name from the North Stand of the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal. The High Court directed the Hyderabad Cricket Association not to take any further action until further orders are issued.

Last week, HCA Ombudsman Justice Eswaraiah had issued directions to remove Azharuddin’s name from the North Stand. In response, Azharuddin approached the High Court challenging this directive. In his petition, he stated that he had represented the Indian cricket team for nearly two decades, including approximately ten years as captain. He urged the court to consider his contributions to cricket and requested a stay on the ombudsman’s orders.

The High Court heard Azharuddin’s petition today and concurred with his arguments. It clearly stated that no action should be taken to remove his name from the North Stand until further orders are passed. Accordingly, the court issued interim directions to the Hyderabad Cricket Association. As a result, Azharuddin’s name will remain on the North Stand for the time being.
