TS seeks approval for converting state roads into national highways

Hyderabad, April 2: Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said today that the TS government has requested the Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for funds for the conversion of 1,018 km of State Highways in state into National Highways. He said the length of the national highways in the State at present was 2,592 km. The minister said, if the request was conceded, the state will reach the all-India average of national highways in any State. According to the minister, Gadkari is believed to have assured to consider the request within a fortnight. The minister also revealed that the union minister had also assured of considering Telangana's request for sanction of Rs. 2,000 crore for construction of roads in extremist-affected areas like Adilabad, Karimnagar and Warangal.
