AP High Court Grants Relief to RGV in Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu Case

Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma received relief from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which directed the police not to take any action against him for six weeks. The case against Varma was filed over allegations that his film Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu incited caste-based tensions.

Mangalagiri resident Bandaru Vamsikrishna had lodged a complaint, based on which the Andhra Pradesh CID registered a case against Varma. In response, the director filed a quash petition in the High Court, seeking dismissal of the case.

During the hearing, Varma argued that the case against him was politically motivated and that the allegations were baseless. He pointed out that the film had been released in 2019 only after receiving certification from the Censor Board. He questioned the motive behind filing a case in 2024, years after the film’s release, suggesting ulterior intentions behind the move.

Varma urged the High Court to issue a stay on any further actions by the CID based on this case. After reviewing the petition, the High Court ruled in his favor, granting him temporary relief.
