CID Issues Fresh Notices to Ram Gopal Varma in 2019 Film Case

The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) has once again issued notices to controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma in connection with cases registered against his 2019 film Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu. The cases were filed in Anakapalli, Mangalagiri, and Ongole, citing objections to the film’s content. CID officials have now summoned Varma for further investigation.

Previously, Ram Gopal Varma had challenged earlier notices issued in this case by filing a petition in the Telangana High Court. While the legal proceedings are still ongoing, the CID has now sent another set of notices to the filmmaker.

Last month, on February 10, Guntur CID officials had issued notices to Ram Gopal Varma, requiring his presence for questioning. However, instead of appearing in person, Varma sent his lawyer to the CID office. Through his legal representative, he cited work commitments and requested an extension of eight days. Despite this, the CID has now sent fresh notices, demanding his presence.

The controversy surrounding this case dates back to 2019 when Varma directed Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu. The film's title led to legal challenges, with some individuals filing petitions in the Telangana High Court. As a result, the movie was eventually released under the modified title Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu. However, the original title Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu was still used on YouTube, prompting a complaint from Bandaru Vamsi Krishna, a resident of Atmakur near Mangalagiri.

In his complaint to the CID, Vamsi Krishna alleged that the film contained objectionable scenes that were not removed, causing offense to certain communities. Based on this complaint, the CID police registered a case on November 29 last year at the Mangalagiri CID Police Station. Following this, CID officials issued notices to Varma, directing him to appear for questioning. However, the filmmaker sought an extension instead of attending the inquiry.
