Cinema Must Uphold Moral Values, Not Glorify Criminals: Venkaiah Naidu
Former Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current trends in Indian cinema. He urged filmmakers to reconsider how they shape the portrayal of hero characters in films.
Speaking at a memorial event in Hyderabad for veteran Telugu actress and producer Krishna Veni, who recently passed away, Venkaiah Naidu lamented that cinema, which once served as a medium to convey positive messages to society, is now glorifying smugglers, traitors, and individuals engaged in unethical activities. He emphasized that such portrayals do not send the right message to audiences.
Venkaiah Naidu advised filmmakers to reflect on the kind of influence their movies have on society. He stressed that negative actions should never be depicted as admirable, as they could have a lasting impact, particularly on children. He urged the film industry to act responsibly and ensure that cinema remains a medium that upholds moral values.
The memorial event was held at the Film Nagar Cultural Club in Hyderabad.
