New Rule for VIP Accommodation Allocation at Tirumala
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has introduced a new rule for allocating accommodation to VIPs at Tirumala. Going forward, VIPs will be allotted rooms only if they have a valid darshan ticket.
TTD manages a total of 7,500 rooms at Tirumala for visiting devotees. Of these, 3,500 rooms are allocated to the general public. Additionally, 1,580 rooms are available for advance booking, 400 rooms are reserved for devotees who make donations to TTD, and 450 rooms are allotted on an on-arrival basis. The remaining rooms are allocated to VIPs under the current booking system.
However, concerns have emerged regarding the misuse of these VIP rooms. Brokers have reportedly been securing rooms using Aadhaar cards and holding them under their control. Since these rooms can be used for up to two days, brokers have been renting them out to multiple devotees, collecting significant amounts in the process.
To curb this malpractice, TTD has implemented the new rule. Under the updated policy, VIPs must present both their Aadhaar card and darshan ticket at designated counters, including the Padmavati Inquiry Center, MBC, and TB counters, to receive accommodation. TTD officials believe this measure will yield positive results in eliminating unauthorized room allotments.
