Trump Calls Zelensky a Comedian After Previously Labeling Him a Dictator
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again made controversial remarks about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. After recently comparing Zelensky to a dictator, Trump has now referred to him as a comedian. He criticized the Ukrainian leader, alleging that he made the United States spend as much as $35 billion. Trump made these remarks indirectly while discussing Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
Despite Trump’s criticism, Ukraine remains hopeful that he will engage in negotiations to end the three-year-long conflict with Russia. However, Zelensky has expressed frustration over Trump’s stance. He recently stated that the U.S. president is surrounded by misinformation and falsehoods. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is fighting for its sovereignty and resisting Russia’s aggression on its territory.
According to Zelensky, Trump is overly influenced by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s perspective and fails to grasp Ukraine’s concerns. He also asserted that the aid Ukraine received under President Joe Biden’s administration would be halted if Trump returns to power. Without continued U.S. assistance, Zelensky warned, Ukrainians would struggle to sustain their resistance against Russia.
The United States remains actively involved in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. As part of these efforts, Trump’s envoy, Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, met with Zelensky on Thursday. Though a media briefing was initially planned following the meeting, it was later canceled. Ukrainian officials stated that the press conference was called off at the request of the United States.
