Former DGP RP Thakur Appointed as Advisor to Andhra Pradesh Government
Former Director General of Police (DGP) RP Thakur has been appointed as an advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government. The appointment order was issued on Saturday by Mukesh Kumar Meena, Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department. According to the order, Thakur will discharge his duties from Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi and will hold the position for a tenure of two years.
RP Thakur, a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has held various positions in the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh. After the state's bifurcation, he served as Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement, Additional Director General (ADG) for Law and Order, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Anantapur and Chittoor. From November 19, 2016, he took charge as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Andhra Pradesh. Subsequently, he served as the state's DGP from July 1, 2018, to June 1, 2019. Following his tenure as DGP, Thakur was appointed as the Commissioner of Printing and Stationery and later served as the Managing Director of APSRTC.
Notably, the state government has assigned key positions to two retired senior IPS officers on the same day. On Saturday, the Chandrababu Naidu-led government also appointed retired IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao as the Chairman of the Police Housing Corporation, while RP Thakur was designated as the government's advisor.
