England has announced its squad for the first match of the five-match T20 series against India, scheduled to take place today at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The team has been carefully selected to ensure balance between bowlers and all-rounders. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson returns to the squad after a year, having last played in December 2023 against the West Indies. Adil Rashid is the sole specialist spinner, while Liam Livingstone will also provide spin options. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett are set to open the innings, with Jos Buttler leading the team as captain.

England Squad:
Phil Salt (wicketkeeper), Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler (captain), Harry Brook (vice-captain), Liam Livingstone, Jack Bethell, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.

England's last T20 series was against the West Indies, which they won 3-1. On the other hand, India recently played a four-match T20 series against South Africa, winning 3-1. Historically, England and India have faced off in 24 T20 matches, with England winning 11 of them. In India, England has played 11 matches, winning five.

India has also made notable inclusions in its squad. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami returns after a year-long absence due to a heel injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and all-rounder Nitish Reddy, who impressed during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, have been added to the squad.

The first match of the series will be held at Eden Gardens today, followed by matches in Chennai on January 25, Rajkot on January 28, Pune on January 31, and Mumbai on February 2. The T20 series will be followed by a three-match ODI series, starting in Nagpur on February 6, Cuttack on February 9, and Ahmedabad on February 12.
