Pakistan Faces Another Setback After Heavy Defeat Against South Africa

Following a disappointing loss in the second Test match against South Africa, the Pakistan cricket team has suffered another setback. In addition to the defeat, the team was penalized heavily for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match. As per ICC regulations, a 5% fine on match fees is imposed for every slow over bowled by a team. Since Pakistan was found to be five overs short by the end of the game, match referee Richardson imposed a 25% deduction on the players' match fees.

Moreover, the team lost 5 crucial points in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the sanction without contest.

Currently, Pakistan ranks 8th in the WTC points table. Due to its low position, the points deduction does not significantly affect the team’s standing. Meanwhile, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia secured a 3-1 series victory over India in a five-match Test series, ensuring their place in the WTC final. The prestigious final will be held at Lord’s in June, where Australia will face South Africa.
