Earthquake resulted from plate motion stress :NGRI

Hyderabad, Feb 25, 2015: The earthquake that rocked dozens of villages in Guntur and Prakasam districts early this morning was the result of plate motion stress. The six tremors that were felt by the people had been the result of the earthquake which recorded a magnitude of 4 on Richter Scale, according to NGRI scientists here. Seismologist Sri Nagesh of the NGRI told a national daily that there is no need to panic as the tremors have tapered off. "The epicenter of the earth quake was situated at 20 km off Chilakaluri pet in Guntur district," said the scientist, allying the fears of people. A similar earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 on Richter Scale took place at the same place in 1996.
