Fresh Visakha beach erosion causes concern

Visakha, Jan 24, 2015: A powerful sea ingress at Visakha beach on Saturday has resulted in a fresh beach erosion to the extent of 18 meters along the road causing fears over the safety of the visitors to the on-going Visakha festival. What is worrying is that the fresh erosion has taken place where the recent gaps created by earlier bouts of sea ingress were filled up. The area where the beach erosion took place was cordoned off to ensure safety of the pedestrians attending the festival. Police Commissioner Amit Garg, accompanied by Municipal Corporation officials, visited the spot and ordered deployment of more police personnel in the area. Sea ingress has been taking place at Visakha beach very often in recent days sending shivers down the spine of beach visitors and locals. The government has constituted a committee with experts to study the situation and take rectification measures.
