IPL scam: SC holds Meiyappan, Kundra guilty of betting, Srinivasan gets clean chit on cover-up allegations
New Delhi, Jan 22: The Supreme Court of India is reported to have confirmed that BCCI chief-in-exile N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, were guilty of betting.
Though the Supreme Court gave a clean chit to Srinivasan on cover-up allegations and spot-fixing, it said the sidelined cricket board chief should choose between BCCI post and Chennai Super Kings.
According to SC, BCCI functions are judicial in nature and are, therefore, amenable to judicial law.
The apex court is reported to have said Raj Kundra was a team official and as such Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee has proved betting charges against Kundra.
As part of if ruling, the SC has struck down amendments made to rule 6.2.4 that allows BCCI officials to own IPL teams.
Stating that charges against Srinivasan may be regarded with suspicion, SC said no BCCI official should be allowed to have commercial interests.
The apex court further ruled that allegations against IPL COO Sundar Raman must be probed further.
