'Facing defeat, Rajapaksa attempted coup on poll result day'
Colombo, Jan 16: In explosive revelations on Friday, former president of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, who faced defeat in the Presidential elections, is believed to have made a coup bid even as the poll results came in. Speaking to media, former army chief General Sarath Fonseka, who is likely to be the new Defence Minister of that country, claimed that Rajapaksa is reported to have shifted at least 2000 troops to Colombo before the poll results for the coup bid. However, Rajapaksa is said to have denied the charges. Fonseka reportedly said that the new government is in possession of proof of this development.
