Pudimadaka Super Thermal Power Project: Centre tells NTPC to relocate power plant
Visakhapatnam, Jan 16: In a minor set back to the proposed 4000 MW power plant that is to come up near Visakhapatnam, the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests told the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to shift the plant's location to a safer place.
Ciiting a report, the ministry said the proposed location of the Pudimadaka Super Thermal Power Project is ecologically sensitive as it is Tsunami prone.
Following a detailed survey and deliberations, the ministry submitted a report to NTPC and told it to relocate its project after holding appropriate discussions with Andhra Pradesh government.
It may be recalled that the AP government had leased out approximately 1,200 acres of land for 33 years to NTPC to set up the Rs 20,000 crore power plant near Visakhapatnam.
The biggest power project of AP is to be operational by March 2019.
