Brahma takes charge as new CEC
New Delhi, Jan 16: Senior-most Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma today took charge as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. The former CEC Sampath demitted office yesterday after turning 65.
Brahma hails from Assam and he is an IAS officer from the 1975 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Similar to Sampath, Brahma also held the post of Power Secretary prior to being appointed Election Commissioner in August 2010.
The new CEC will hold office till April 19 this year, when he turns 65.
Earlier, Brahma held posts like Joint Secretary (Border Management) in the Union Home Ministry.
