GMR denying access to MMTS at Shamshabad airport?

Hyderabad, Jan 8: The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is on a collision course with the Telangana government over the MMTS rail connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad near here. The airport operator GHIAL is said to be refusing to allocate land to the South Central Railway for the establishment of an MMTS station within the airport premises. The company is reported to have been wantonly sitting on the proposal for the past three years as it could financially hurt the private cab operators like Meru Cabs and Sky Cabs, with whom it is said to have entered into a contract to ferry air passengers to and from the city. The Congress government in the unified state of Andhra Pradesh had proposed to extend the MMTS service to the Shamshabad airport with a view to ease the financial burden on the air passengers by avoiding heavy expenditure on cabs to travel to Shamshabad airport. Though SCR is willing to establish an MMTS station, GMR is denying access to MMTS project so as to protect the interests of these cab services. Now, we'll have to see what the Telangana government will do about this.
