Padma Award snub disappoints shuttler Saina
New Delhi, Jan 3: Olympic bronze-medallist shuttler Saina Nehwal is disappointed that the Sports Ministry has rejected her application for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for 2015, citing norms. According to sources, Badminton Association of India (BAI) in august 2014 recommended Saina’s name for the award to the Ministry of Sports. However, the ministry instead selected two-time Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar for the award. The ministry, sources said, felt the westler was a more deserving candidate. Expressing her disappointment, the 24-year-old Saina said, “I felt bad about it.” Saina was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010.
