2-year-old boy's heart flown from Bengaluru to Chennai in 4 hrs

Benaluru, Dec 19: A two-year-old boy's heart was flown to Chennai on a special plane in four hours for transplanting it into another child. The boy had died Friday morning at a hospital in Bengaluru. Bengaluru police are reported to have assigned 25 policemen to see to it that the ambulance transporting the heart from the hospital to the airport (a distance of 2 KM) got a signal-free ride. A waiting air ambulance then airlifted the heart to the Chennai airport. The heart was then rushed to Fortis Hospital in Chennai. Chennai Traffic police configured a special route to see that there were no delays for the heart to reach the hospital. Though the parents of the Bangaluru boy were shattered, they agreed to donate their son's organs, according to doctors.
