Hanamkonda girl is Miss India USA

Washington, Dec 19: A 19-year-old Telugu girl of Georgia, Pranathy Gangaraju, has been crowned Miss India USA 2014 at the 33rd annual pageant, which was organised by the New York-based IFC, recently. Outgoing queen Monica Gill crowned Pranthy. IFC is headed by Dharmatma Saran. Pranathy, who is the first Telugu girl to achieve the feat in 20 years, is a native of Hanamkonda near Warangal in Telangana, while her father hails from Vijayawada. Miss India USA is said to be the oldest running Indian pageant outside India. Pranathy is reported to have spent her early years in Vijaywada. Later her family moved to the US. According to a media release, Pranathy is pursuing a course in film acting and production and her hobbies include swimming, writing, singing and dancing. The release said that Pranathy is expected to represent USA at the Twenty Fourth Annual Miss India Worldwide Pageant, which will also be organised by IFC. The venue is expected to be Goa, India in June, 2016.
