Political parties, students hold pro, anti dharnas over renaming RGI airport

Hyderabad, Nov 22: Even as the Telangana Legislative Council passed a resolution condemning the central government's move to name the domestic terminal at Shamshabad international airport after late NT Rama Rao, Congress and Telugu Desam Party leaders held for and against dharnas on the issue. TDP leaders staged demonstration at NTR Ghat against Telangana assembly's adoption of the resolution objecting to the renaming of domestic air terminal. Then, Motkupally Narasimhulu began a deeksha against the Telangana government on the issue. Meanwhile, Telangana Congress leaders also staged a protest at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's camp office and demanded the Centre to retain the name of Rajiv Gandhi to the domestic terminal. Earlier, Telangana Minister T Harish Rao had moved a resolution in the Legislative Council today condemning the Centre's decision on the issue. The resolution was passed unanimously by the House. Meanwhile, students of the Telangana Vidyarthi Parishad (TGVP) also staged a demonstration against Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu on the renaming issue. They raised slogans against Chandrababu Naidu and then burnt his effigy . They demanded the Centre to rename the domestic air terminal after Professor Jayashankar.
