KBR Park attack: Police formally arrest constable Obulesu

Hyderabad, Nov 21: Hyderabad Police has formally announced on Friday the arrest of former Greyhound constable Obulesu, who was involved in a failed kidnap attempt on Aurobindo Pharma's vice-chairman K. Nityananda Reddy at KBR Park three days ago. Giving out the details of the case to media persons here on Friday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said its was an instantaneous of the accused to kidnap Nityananda Reddy. The CP said during the interrogation Obulesu revieled that he spent the night in the bushes near the park. He is said to have confessed that he wanted to select one big person in the morning. In the process, he selected Nityananda Reddy when he arrived in a luxurious car, the police commissioner said. In April this year, the accused is reported to have abducted one person from the same spot and had succeeded in collecting Rs 10 lakh in ransom. He later released that person near Kotturu of Mahbubnagar district, the CP said. The CP added that the accused was on leave when he stole the AK 47 from the Grayhound weapon room. The commissioner said Obulesu is unmarried, stays alone and belongs to Porumamilla village in Kadapa district. The top cop said the accused appears to have fallen in bad ways of late and was leading a lavish life, which is not commensurate with his income level. The commissioner said that police identified him though finger prints and CCTV footage and caught up with him after he fled from Imliban bus station to Kurnool by a bus. The commissioner confirmed that the accused was in perfect condition and he did not involve any other person either while stealing the weapon or while kidnapping people.
