T irrigation expert R Vidyasagar Rao passes away
Hyderabad, April.29 : Advisor to Telangana government on water sources R Vidyasagar Rao died here this morning. He was suffering from blood cancer since a few days He was undergoing treatment in Continental hospital at Gachibowli. He was on ventilator for many weeks.
In a bulletin, the hospital said malignant cancer spread to other vital organs, and his condition deteriorated. He suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away this morning. Vidyasagar Rao was considered as an authority on irrigation matters.
Born on November 14, 1939, Vidyasagar Rao did his BE from Osmania University in 1960 and his Master's degree in Water Resources Development in the University of Roorkee in 1979. He had also done Diploma in Water Resources Systems Engineering, Colorado State University (USA) in 1983. He also did Bachelor of Law from DelhiUniversity in 1990. He worked with the Central Water Commission, Union Ministry of Water Resources in various capacities and retired as Chief Engineer. He also worked as a Consultant to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) at Nairobi (Kenya) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) during November–December 1991.
He also served as Member of Working Group of Major, Medium Irrigation & Command Area Development Project for XII Five Year Plan of Planning Commission. He also served as Resources Person, National Commission for Integrated Water Resources Development Plan. He was responsible for preparation of working group report on legal, institutional and financial aspects. He played a key role in Telangana movement and used to say Telangana would get its legitimate share in the river waters if it partied from Andhra Pradesh.
He was suffering from cancer since the last two years. He went America for treatment a few months back. But there was no change in his health condition. He was admitted to the hospital on April 22. But he breathed his last this morning.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conveyed their condolences to the great man.
