Harish Rao vows to complete irrigation projects on time

Hyderabad, March. 18: “Irrigation projects will be completed on time to transform Telangana into a green belt”, Minister for Irrigation and Assembly Affairs T Haish Rao has said.
Speaking in the Council on Saturday, Harish Rao said the State government was committed to fulfill its promise of irrigating one crore acres over five years as planned. The Project redesigning has been taken up only to draw more waters from the irrigation projects, the Minister remarked. “Our aim is to protect the State interests and will make all efforts to get rightful share of waters from the river Krishna”, he said.
In combined Andhra Pradesh State, then rulers caused gross injustice to Telangana by denying its rightful share of waters and diverted waters to Rayalaseema.  He also alleged that the Congress leaders were coming in the way of developmental works, including that of the irrigation projects. “Indeed, the works related to irrigation projects are getting delayed due to obstacles being created by the Congress leaders”, he said. However, the government was determined to see that the projects are completed on time and increase agriculture output.
Harish Rao also said the government was ready to offer adequate waters to Khammam district. The previous governments had neglected the irrigation sector and then rulers failed to give waters to Khammam though Godavari passes through the district, he alleged. He also charged that Andhra rulers, during YSR regime, hatched a conspiracy to divert 200 tmc Godavari waters to Rayalaseema. Keeping this in view, the State government has cancelled Dummugudem Link Canal of Sujala Sravanthi. The minister said efforts were on to recover money from the agencies for failing to complete the allotted works.
