Hyderabad, Jan.8 : Vaikuntha Ekadashi  has  been celebrated in all the major temples in the two  Telugu States today, with religious ferver and devotion. The pilgrim centers witnessed huge crowds. Devotees offered special poojas to the deities at the temples.

Special arrangements were made in the temples in   Hyderabad, Dharmapuri, Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad, Yadadri, Tirumala, Srisailam, and Mangalagiri for the pilgrims to have darshan of the Gods and Goddesses.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is celebrated in Vaishnava temples all over South India. It is one of the major festivals celebrated with grandeur amidst the holy chants of the Lords’ names.

According to mythology,   a great Vaishnava named Sri Nammalvar was very dear to the Supreme Lord Vishnu. When he left his body on this Earth, Lord Vishnu himself personally stood at the entry to Vaikuntha, to receive his devotee. To commemorate this event, Vaikuntha Ekadashi is celebrated in the temples every year on that day.

Another legged behind this festival is that everyday morning,   devatas visit Vaikuntham to have darshan of Lord Vishnu. One day of demigods is equivalent to one earthly year. Hence every year on this day, Vaikuntha dwara is erected in the temples. Hindu Devotees firmly believe that those who pass through the Vaikuntha Dwara on this day would go straight to Vaikuntham after death.
