AP CM Launches Polavaram Spillway Concrete Works

Eluru: Today, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has opened a new era in the history of 'Navyandhra' by inaugurating the most important concrete works to the spillway of multipurpose and much anticipated Polavaram project at Ramayyapeta village in Polavaram mandal of West Godavari district.

AP Reorganisation Act-2014 had already declared 'Polavaram' as a National Project. As a part of Special Package/Special Assistance to Andhra Pradesh, Center declared that total expenditure of 'Polavaram' would be borne by GOI with effect from 1st April 2014.

The current year's liability of the Polavaram Project is Rs.2,981cr of which Rs.1,981cr has been released. Recently, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti handed over a Rs.1,981cr cheque to AP CM.

CM Chandrababu Naidu working rigorously to complete this mega project by 2018. Polavaram Project has an assessed command area of 2.91 lakh hectares and power generation potential of 960 MW.

  • 1942-44 - Preliminary Survey; Estimated cost Rs.65millions (6.5Cr)
  • 1946–47 - Estimated cost rose to Rs.1.29 billion(129cr). Named as "Ramapada Sagar Project"
  • 1980 - Then AP CM T.Anjaiah laid the foundation stone
  • 2005 Sept - Environmental Clearance
  • 2005 Oct - Tribal Welfare Min Clearance
  • 2007 April - R & R Clearance
  • 2008 Sept - Wildlife sanctuary clearance
  • 2008 Dec - Forest Clearance Stage-I
  • 2009 Jan - Technical Advisory Committee Clearance
  • 2010 July - Forest Clearance Stage-II
  • 2011 - Estimated cost, Rs.16,010.45cr
  • 2014 - AP Re-Organisation Act - Declared as National Project
