It Costs Rs.20 Lakh To Shift World's Heaviest Person To Mumbai
Dec 9, 2016: Egypt's Iman Ahmad Abdulati has been suffering with obesity. With more than 500 kg weight, she was already registered as world's heaviest person . To save her life a surgery is planned at Mumbai Hospital. But bringing her from Egypt to Mumbai has become costly affair. Due to the acute obesity, for the past 13 years Abdulati has been bed ridden. After observing her plight Dr Muffazal Lakdawala came forward to take up the case. Initially Abdulati faced troubles in getting a Medical visa as embassy officials did not believe that she could not visit their office to register her fingerprint scan. However External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's intervention got visa for her. After getting visa, transportation has become a major hurdle. Air ambulance service people informed doctors that the aircraft's door wasn't big enough to carry Abdulati. To airlift Abdulati Dr Lakdawala approached Dr Samir Gokani from Ambucare. Dr.Gokani said "Considering the weight, to transport her in a commercial flight, we need to adjust nine seats in the flight's tail. There the stretcher can be put. This may require some more modification also." It is estimated that Rs.20 lakh is required to pay for a commercial flight to shift her from Egypt to Mumbai. Dr Lakdawala said "We are going to open an account in Abdulati's name for donations to air lift her from Egypt to Mumbai. Our hospital is providing the necessary treatment and surgery at free of cost."
