Comman man desperate for cash, long queues everywhere
After Prime Minister's massive surgical strike on Black Money, the economy of the nation has put standstill. People are suffering from short of money. ATMs started releasing new currency with Rs.2000 and Rs.500 denomination from yesterday midnight. People across the nation rushing towards ATMs and Banks to exchange their Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes. Although RBI assured that all measures have been taken to facilitate the smooth transaction, the ground realities are not fair enough. Inactive and not stocked ATMs coupled with very long queues frustrating the common man. In initial days ATM card holders were allowed to withdraw only Rs.2000 per day, which will be raised upto Rs.4000 afterwards. SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya opined that it would take a minimum of 10 days to bring normalcy in ATM services. She further added that people need to understand that though there are more than two lakh ATMs from all banks are in function only four to five vendors are working to serve them. Minister Venkiah Naidu also acknowledged the situation and tweeted as "True, there r queues at banks & post offices. But ppl say "they are happy even though there are temporary hardships. It's good 4 d country". No cricket, no movies, no entertainment..everyone worrying about the currency transaction. To dilute the public anger, GOI announced that surcharge for using services of other ATMs will be temporarily waived.
