Chittoor Call Money racketeer held in Salem

A call money racket run by a woman, Pavani, in Chittoor has come to light with her arrest in Salem. Like in Vijayawada, where the Call Money racket has hit thousands of families, the Pavani racket used to target the middle class and poor families in the district. Those who are unable to pay back in time are the target for Pavani. She would threaten them with Chintu's ire. Chintu is one of the accused in the murder of the Mayor couple a few months ago. Pavani would go to the houses of the poor and middle class with her followers and threaten them. Then she would warn them that Chintu would visit them. By posing such threats, she would take away gold ornaments and other assets from the families. As several complaints were lodged with the police, they started a search for Pavani and located her to Salem in Tamil Nadu, where she was eventually arrested. Now the police have asked the affected people to file compaliants against Pavani, if they have any to make.
