'Faculty must improve their soft skills first'

Hyderabad, May 30: “In the recent survey, only 15% of the technical students have the employability skills in India. In core subjects, the percentage is around 4 to 5. Their fundamentals were very poor. We have to improve the employability skills of the students up to 40%” Prof. N.V.S.N.Sarma, E&ICT Academy, NIT, Warangal advised to the GITAM faculty. He graced as a chief guest in the inaugural session of Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Computer Organization” at GITAM Seminar hall on 30 May 2016. This event is organized by GITAM University, Hyderabad in association with NIT, Warangal, under the scheme of Electronics & ICT Academy and it will continue up to 8 June 2016. Make use the ICT tools to improve the teaching abilities, Prof. Sarma advised. If the teacher improves his soft skills, the students also can improve, he opined. He asked the faculty to interact each and every resource person during the FDP. The faculty must actively participate in the FDP and learn more, he appealed. Earlier, Prof. N. Siva Prasad, Pro Vice Chancellor, GITAM University, Hyderabad introduced the guests and stressed the need of continuing education program. Once a person, who can learn the fundamentals, he can solve any problem in his life, he opined. Prof. C. Chandra Sekhar, Prof. Prasad Patnaik B.S.V, both are from IIT Madras and Prof. Ch. Sanjay, Principal, GITAM School of Technology also took part in the inaugural session. P. Pavan Kumar, Coordinator of this FDP explained the objectives of the program. In this 10 days, 80 hours FDP 45 faculty from Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Hyderabad have been registered.
