Kurnool ryots oppose Karnataka-TS RDS; Cong leaders stage dharna at barrage

Opposing the Karnataka-Telangana Rajolibanda diversion scheme, the farmers in Kurnool led by Balanagi Reddy, MLA, staged dharna at the RDS project at Bommanapur in Kosigi mandal on Monday. Local people also joined the farmers on the ground that if the project were to materialise, they would not have drinking water, forget about water for irrigation. They were therefore opposing the anicut construction at Bommanapur. They furrther warned that the farmers would be forced to commit suicide. Following high tension in the area, the police have been stationed there in strength. In Vijayawada also, the people are staging dharna at Krishna barrage, opposing all the projects being built across the Krishna in Telangana, which would turn the entire Andhra, including Rayalaseema into a desert. The demonstration is being led by Congress leaders, headed by PCC chief M. Raghuveera Reddy. They demanded that all projects across the Krishna in Telangana should be stopped forthwith. They alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government was neglecting the serious issue of Telangana projects.
