Friday's gales were 150 kmph while city hoardings can stand 50 kmph wind

The city experienced the gales of 150 km speed on Friday evening, when a trail of destruction of trees and hoardings was witnessed. The ad hoardings that fell could withstand only 50-60 kmph gales, it is stated. The GHMC got into work to clear the mess and removal of uprooted trees, branches, hoardings that caused traffic chaos. Minister T Srinivas Yadav on Saturday held a review meeting with the officials of GHMC and other wings. He reviewed the rain fury which may cause more damage in the days to come and directed the officials to immediately remove the hoardings and other advertisement poles that may add to the woes when the streets are inundated with waters in many places. The minister directed the officials to be more cautious. The officials should adopt latest technology and press in the staff to avoid inconvenience, besides removing illegal hoardings. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the hoardings could withstand gales of 50-60 kmph and asked the officials to prevent the recurrence of collapse of such ad hoardings. The Corporation would take strong decision against such hoardings. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said they received 400 complaints from people after the rain fury and set up control rooms to assist them.
