Mamta Banerjee sets sights on New Delhi next

I am not a VVIP but an LIP (less important person), Chief Minister Mamata Banderjee said humbly on Thursday when her Trinamul party triumphed in the West Bengal assembly elections. Significantly, she said: `I can play some role for my country because I love my motherland. I want to see my country to develop. So if I can play a small role I can play that. But there are so many friends that can sit together.' Giving enough discount for a politician, it can safely be assumed that after two terms in West Bengal, Mamata's focus is now on Delhi in the 2019 elections. Already observers are saying the Trinamul win in West Bengal is a bigger challenge to the BJP on the national stage than the Congress. The sentence `So many friends that can sit together' suggests she wants to align with regional parties and head them if need be. But she must win all the parliamentary seats in West Bengal, and her `friends' should also win in their respective states for such a turn.
