CBI Court awards 4 year sentence to Rungta brothers in first coal scam case
At last the CBI Special Court has passed the first sentence in the massive coal scam under the Congress-led UPA government. The CBI Special Court Judge Bharat Parashar on Monday sentenced the Rungta brothers, of Jharkhand Ispat Private Ltd, to 4 years imprisonment along with Rs 5 lakh fine. The court held that the two directors of the Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd had submitted fake papers and cornered coal mines in the State. It held that the brothers, RS Rungta and RC Rungta, had cheated the State government. This apart the company had been asked to pay a fine Rs 25 lakh. In his judgement last month, the CBI Judge had announced that he would be sentencing the accused in the case and that he wanted them to be taken into custody. The State had contended that the brothers had conspired to cheat the government. The case was filed against the brothers on March 21, 2015, and the court passed the sentence today.
