Saplings spring up as Bhutan Prince is born
How to celebrate the birth of a prince and the future King? Gala parties, royal ball? No, no way. Bhutan has unique practice of celebrating the arrival of a future King by taking up a plantation programme. By the time the new born becomes the King, he would see a forest come alive with lots of chirruping birds. In Bhutan, the unique practice is to plant saplings in the mountain plains. They have planted 108000 saplings to mark the birth of Prince to the King in waiting Wangchuk and Princess Jatsun. The plantation is a wish that like the vegetation the Prince will also grow up healthy. Bhutan has 60% forests. The Himalayan country holds the record for planting 5000 saplings per hour. The thoughtful people of Bhutan have been receiving showers of praise from the people the world over for their belief that trees will ultimately save you if you care to save them.
