Maoists show red flag to Mamata's TMC

Naxalites do not believe in parliamentary democracy but do influence the voters in various States. At a time when Naxalism was high, it was believed whichever party they supported would win the poll. It was believed so in the combined Andhra Pradesh. Now it is the case of West Bengal, where the Trinamul Congress Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had virtually decimated the Maoists. In a honeytrap operation, the TMC had ended the Maoist leadership in the Junglemahal area. The Maoists had since been simmering against the TMC rule, but faced a lack of leadership. They have started an anti-TMC rule campaign. While the surveys are predicting a repeat of the last assembly result and re-election of Mamata Banerjee, the stand of the Maoists has come as a shock to her. Sources said Mamata was now engaged in neutralising the Maoists' influence on the voters. The Maoists are stated to have stepped up their anti-TMC campaign in West Bengal. In the Junglemahal, their's is stated to be a whispering campaign to regain control of the region. Junglemahal comprises three districts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore, which together have 40 assembly seats, in which Maoists are stated to have influence in 30 seats. This is bound to affect the Mamata party considerably.
